ACTIONS OF THE MONTH - JANUARY 2021
Action #1 - Prevent Trump from Holding Office Ever Again
Call our Senators (Warren and Markey) and Representative (McGovern) and tell them to work to pass a law to prevent Donald Trump from ever running for or holding federal office again.
Section 3 of the 14th Amendment can be used to prevent Donald Trump from holding another federal office if he is found to have “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against” the Constitution of the United States. This only requires a simple majority vote of both houses. (Impeachment requires a much higher two-thirds majority vote of the Senate.) Congress simply needs to declare that Donald Trump engaged in an act of “insurrection or rebellion” by encouraging the attack on the Capitol.
Please make calls to: Senator Elizabeth Warren Springfield 413-788-2690 DC 202-224-4543; Senator Ed Markey Springfield 413-785-4610 DC 202-224-2742; Representative Jim McGovern 413-341-8700 DC 202-225-6101
Script: Hello. My name is [NAME]. I’m your constituent. My address is [ADDRESS AND ZIP CODE]. My phone number is [NUMBER]. Tonight I’m calling to express my strong desire for you to do whatever you can to pass a law to prevent Donald Trump from ever running for or holding federal office again. I want you to use Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to have a formal declaration from the House and the Senate that Donald Trump “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the Constitution of the United States” when he supported, suggested and encouraged the attack on the Capitol. Thank you for doing what you can to prevent Trump from ever holding office again.
Action #2 - DEMAND THE INVESTIGATION AND POSSIBLE REMOVAL OR SANCTION OF LAWMAKERS WHO VOTED TO BLOCK THE CERTIFICATION OF THE ELECTION
BACKGROUND: Newly elected US Rep. Cori Bush of Missouri has introduced a resolution (with many co-sponsors). It argues that Republican lawmakers who objected to election results violated the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which states that no federal government officeholder “shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.”
WHO TO CALL: Elizabeth Warren DC 202-224-4543 Springfield 413-788-2690; Ed Markey DC 202-224-2742 Springfield 413-785-4610; Jim McGovern DC 202-225-6101 Northampton 413-341-8700
SCRIPT (for Rep. McGovern):
I am calling Rep. McGovern because I am deeply concerned about the support and encouragement members of Congress gave to those who a undertook violent insurrection against our country and attempted to stop the peaceful transfer of power to President-elect Biden. I urge you to support the resolution filed by Rep. Cori Bush, which calls for investigating and issuing a report on whether actions taken by Members of the 117th Congress who sought to overturn the 2020 Presidential election violated their oath of office to uphold the Constitution or the Rules of the House of Representatives, and should face sanction, including removal from the House of Representative. Thank you for your efforts. My name is ___________, my address is _________________.
SCRIPT (for Senators Warren and Markey):
I am calling Senator [Warren/Markey] because I am deeply concerned about the support and encouragement some US Senators gave to those who a undertook violent insurrection against our country and attempted to stop the peaceful transfer of power to President-elect Biden. I urge you to support a resolution similar to that filed by Rep. Cori Bush in the House to investigate and issuing a report on whether actions taken by these Senators who sought to overturn the 2020 Presidential election violated their oath of office to uphold the Constitution or the Rules of the Senate, and should face sanction, including removal from the Senate. Thank you for your efforts. My name is ___________, my address is _________________.
Action #3 - DEMAND A COMMISSION BE FORMED TO EXAMINE THE EXTENT OF RIGHT-WING EXTREMISTS IN LAW ENFORCEMENT
BACKGROUND: Many news outlets have been reporting for months now growing evidence that suggests far-right extremists, including White Supremacists, are now within the ranks of law enforcement. After the January 6th attack on the US Capital, it was revealed that local police officers were among those taking part in that violent insurrection and several Capital police officers are being investigated for possible collusion with the people who undertook the attack. The growth of radicalized right-wing extremists in this country is clear. What we do not know is how extensively these individuals have infiltrated law enforcement or even whether they are being radicalized after joining the force.
WHO TO CALL:
Elizabeth Warren DC 202-224-4543 Springfield 413-788-2690; Ed Markey DC 202-224-2742 Springfield 413-785-4610; Jim McGovern DC 202-225-6101 Northampton 413-341-8700
SCRIPT:
Given the rise of right-wing extremist in this country up to and including the attack on the US Capital on January 6th and given reports of law enforcement’s lack of response and credible reports of even police involvement, I am calling to request that Sen./Rep. (___________) file legislation to form a commission to understand to what extent our federal, state, and local law enforcement departments have been infiltrated by far-right extremists. Thank you for your efforts. My name is ___________, my address is _________________.
Action #4 - Call for holding instigators and aggressors accountable for the insurrection against our government
Call: Senator Elizabeth Warren Springfield 413-788-2690 DC 202-224-4543; Senator Ed Markey Springfield 413-785-4610 DC 202-224-2742; Representative Jim McGovern 413-341-8700 DC 202-225-6101
Script:
Hello. My name is [NAME]. I’m your constituent. My address is [ADDRESS AND ZIP CODE]. My phone number is [NUMBER]. Tonight I’m calling to express my strong desire for you to do what you can to create a special task force or committee that will fully investigate how to bring criminal charges against the instigators and participants in the insurrection at the capitol. The investigation and appropriate criminal charges must include not only the aggressors at the capitol, but ALSO any additional complicit actors, foreign or domestic (including law enforcement and security personnel as well as elected officials).
Action #5 - INVESTIGATE THE CAPITOL POLICE RESPONSE TO THE JANUARY 6TH COUP ATTEMPT
In the days since the violent insurrection at the Capitol, a Capitol officer has died, dozens have been arrested, and the Chief of Capitol Police and the Sergeant at Arms for both the House and Senate have resigned. These leaders of the security failed to plan appropriately and adequately for the violence and this has become clear. Chief Sund of the Capitol Police told reporters that he was overruled before January 6 by the House Sergeant at Arms regarding his plan to request National Guard support and also he begged the Department of Defense several times for troops during the siege, only to receive support hours later.
This is one of the most dramatic failures of security in the history of our Capitol and the tepid response by Capitol Police must be thoroughly investigated.
Senator Elizabeth Warren Springfield 413-788-2690 DC 202-224-4543; Senator Ed Markey Springfield 413-785-4610 DC 202-224-2742; Congressman Jim McGovern Northampton 413-341-8700 DC 202-225-6101

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent and my address is [address] and telephone number [number]. I’m thankful that all of you were safe after the violence at the Capitol. I'm calling to urge an investigation into the appalling breakdown in security that allowed the violent rioters to enter the Capitol and legislators' private offices with little to no resistance from Capitol police.
Action #6 - INVESTIGATE TRUMP'S ELECTION INTERFERENCE IN GEORGIA
On January 2, Donald Trump escalated his desperate attempts to undermine the election with a call to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. During his recorded call, Trump demanded Raffensperger and his team ignore the Georgia election results and investigate already-debunked claims of voter fraud or face criminal liability. “I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have. Because we won the state,” Trump insisted. This call needs to be investigated.

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent and my address is [address] and telephone number [number]. I’m thankful that all of you were safe after the violence at the Capitol.
I'm calling to urge an investigation of Donald Trump's call to Georgia Secretary of State Raffensperger that occurred on January 2nd. I was horrified to hear Trump repeatedly demand that Raffensperger "find" additional votes to change the outcome of the Georgia presidential race. Trump's actions are not only potentially criminal, but also an insult to the will of voters and the integrity of our elections.
